About the Co-Design Lab

The New Voices Co-Design Lab brings newcomer youth together to shape the next series of free creative media arts workshops in North Bay. The project supports youth who experience isolation and hyper-visibility in school settings by offering a culturally safe space to build confidence, skills, and community connections. Participants help decide the topics, formats, and storytelling methods explored in upcoming workshops, ensuring the program reflects their interests and lived experiences.

What Happens in This Session

This co-design session runs for four hours and includes small-group activities for ages 12 to 15 and 16 to 19. Youth will work on hands-on activities with our facilitator to explore ideas such as podcasting, video creation, zine-making, and community storytelling. Their input will directly guide the January (2026) workshop curriculum.

Who Should Register

Newcomer youth ages 12 to 19 who want to:

• help shape the content of future creative media workshops
• share ideas about how stories from their communities should be told
• build confidence in a supportive youth-friendly space
• connect with peers who share similar newcomer experiences

Opportunity After the Co-Design Session

Participants who attend this co-design session will be invited to join our inaugural Workshop Circle 1, starting in January 2026. Some youth may also be considered for paid peer supporter roles during future workshop cycles.

Honorarium and Capacity

There are 20 spots available.
Each confirmed participant will receive a $50 honorarium for taking part in the co-design session.
