N2M2L About

Near North Mobile Media Lab (N2M2L) is a registered non-profit that provides the tools media artists, students, filmmakers and audiences in Northern Ontario need to produce, present and enjoy contemporary media arts in all its forms. This includes but is not limited to: media installations; filmmaking; video art; animation; documentary arts; and sound production. We provide a rental service of industry standard equipment at low prices, run workshops, hold screenings and events, and foster a growing community of media artists in our region. We are located in downtown North Bay.

N2M2L Mission

The Near North Mobile Media Lab cultivates, develops, and champions contemporary digital media art for artists and audiences in northern Ontario.

N2M2L Mandate

We envision a thriving and sustainable arts community in northern Ontario that supports innovative digital media artists, creates access to contemporary presentations, and is a valued participant in broader artistic discourse.

DCN Network Facilitator

Katya Serre

Katya Serre is a two-spirit Anishinaabe artist from Nipissing First Nation who operates within a variety of artistic disciplines. Practicing and exhibiting Anishinaabe art is a way for her to feel connected to her culture in the 21st century as an act of resistance against colonialist efforts. Her personal art practice often revolves around themes of tradition and modernity working in harmony or in some cases, in dissonance with one another.

Katya has graduated from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours, with distinction) minoring in Indigenous Studies. She is currently working for the Near North Mobile Media Lab as a network facilitator. Previously, she was a program facilitator for Digital Creator North and was integral in the North Bay program’s success with the youth: she hopes to spread positivity through creation whether that be digital, traditional, or a mix of the two.
