About the Role
Near North Mobile Media Lab (N2M2L) is seeking a passionate and creative Digital Media Programs Intern to help deliver inclusive and engaging digital arts programming to youth, adults, and all-ages audiences. This internship plays a key role in our expanded programming capacity, following the recent launch of our dedicated digital makerspace in downtown North Bay.
Fifty percent of the intern’s time will be devoted to running our long-standing Digital Creator program for youth aged 11–19, which includes planning and facilitating weekly drop-ins, workshops, and skill-building sessions in areas like digital drawing, video editing, audio recording, and 3D printing and stop motion animation.
The remaining time will focus on developing and delivering new adult and intergenerational programming at the makerspace. You’ll support hands-on learning in areas such as podcasting, 3D printing, photo editing, and more, as well as help coordinate special events, guest artists, and drop-in studio programming that makes digital creativity accessible to all.
This position requires availability to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate Digital Creator and Makerspace hours, as well as special programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead digital media workshops for youth (ages 11–19)
- Develop and deliver new adult and intergenerational workshops
- Host guest artists and community programming tied to seasonal events
- Support drop-in users and maintain a welcoming, inclusive studio space
- Help promote programming and build community outreach
- Track attendance and feedback, and assist in evaluation reporting
- Collaborate with the Makerspace Coordinator and Technician to ensure smooth delivery of programs
- Create beginner-friendly learning resources and guides
- Available to work some evenings and weekends as required by programming schedules
Qualifications
- A strong interest in technology, media, and digital arts, with a desire to share that knowledge with others
- Familiarity with digital media equipment, including photography, video, and audio gear (e.g., DSLR cameras, microphones, tripods, audio recorders).
- Experience using creative software and digital tools, such as video editing platforms, audio/podcasting programs, and digital drawing or animation software
- Exposure to 3D printing, Cricut, or other makerspace equipment is an asset
- Strong communication and organizational skills, including comfort speaking to groups and managing workshop prep
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team
- Experience facilitating workshops or peer learning spaces, especially with youth, is a strong asset
- Willingness to learn new tools, support participants with varying skill levels, and maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment
This is a paid one-year internship position funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
