Registration Now Open: New Voices Mini Documentary Production Workshop
Registration is now open for the New Voices Mini Documentary Production Workshop, a free workshop series for newcomer youth ages 12–19 living in North Bay.
This workshop series is part of the New Voices Co-Design Lab, a program that supports newcomer and refugee youth in exploring storytelling, media creation, and creative expression through hands-on workshops.
About the Workshop Series
This New Voices workshop series invites newcomer and refugee youth ages 12–19 to learn how to create their own short mini-documentaries. Participants will explore storytelling through interviews, filming, and editing while working together in a supportive and welcoming environment at the Near North Makerspace.
Youth will learn how to ask thoughtful questions, capture meaningful footage, and shape their material into a compelling story. No experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore stories, perspectives, and experiences from within our diverse community.
Who Can Participate
- Newcomer youth ages 12 to 19
- Living in North Bay and the surrounding communities
- Open to beginners, and no previous media experience is required.
Workshop Details
Dates: Saturday mornings from March 21 to May 9, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Near North Makerspace, 108 Main Street East, North Bay, ON
Cost: Free
All equipment, materials, snacks, and bus fare will be provided.
There are 12 spots available.
About New Voices Co-Design Lab
The New Voices Co-Design Lab is made possible through support from the Rideau Hall Foundation’s Catapult Canada initiative. The program was shaped through youth visioning sessions and continues to be guided by participant interests and lived experiences.
The workshop series is facilitated by Kemi Isijola, Creative Media Facilitator at Near North Mobile Media Lab.
