Doc North 2012:
Successes and Inspirations

On behalf of the Near North Mobile Media Lab and the Doc North Film Festival we want to thank everyone who came out to participate this year for what turned out to be such a wonderful and inspiring festival weekend. We are very proud to announce some of Doc North’s biggest achievements and strides forward from this year, while recognizing how this was made possible by both our attendee’s and wonderful sponsors. This year saw an amazing increase in coverage as numerous news organizations in and around North Bay were so helpful in making Doc North a well known function within our northern community. Thanks to our wonderful title sponsor CTV and our other leading sponsors and media networks The Fox, EZ Rock, CKAT, Cogeco, North Bay Nipissing News, Nipissing University and The Nugget these were just a few of the organizations that encouraged local attendee’s to join us in our documentary film celebration. Also, lets not forget our wonderful shout-out by CBC’s ‘The Hour’ host, George Stroumboulopoulos.

With numerous returning, and oncoming sponsors Doc North witnessed the growing support of our local community as we witness the value in growing the industry of arts and culture within our beautiful city of North Bay. Doc North’s story published on CBC’s Points North, allowed us the opportunity to showcase some the wonderful local talent that embodies Doc North’s identity, as we spoke about a few of our showcasing documentaries.

Doc North was also very lucky to see a dramatic increase in director attendance as we welcomed film makers from as far west as Dawson City, Yukon. As a healthy addition to our previous festival we couldn’t have been more grateful to welcome the brilliant James Cullingham who led our very insightful and informative ‘Master Class’ session for registered festival goers. It’s with additional programs like this, and the witnessing of an expanding festival that the Media Lab looks forward to offering the Doc North Film Festival again in the upcoming year. Keep an eye open for Doc North 2013.

So above all else, we want to ask, where will curiosity take you?
